| Elkridge: |
Elkridge is a small town of about 60,000 residents approximately
15 miles southwest of Baltimore, located in the northeast
part of Howard County. It was the first permanent settlement
in what would later become Howard County, founded as a
Quaker community by three brothers who had moved here from
Buck's County, Pennsylvania. John, Joseph, and Andrew Ellicott
established Ellicott's Mills in 1772 paying three dollars
per acre. Parts of Elkridge have much older homes, including
the famous Elkridge Furnace Inn. Other parts have much
newer homes.
